Strange knock-rattle in trunk areajlaird 10-24-2003, 08:22 PM I have been noticing an odd rattle when acelerating hard from stop. It appears to be coming from the right rear trunk area. It sounds like an octaine knock but in the rear. I know we have the auto leveler pump back there ( I hear it soon after start-up) but this sounds different. Does the fuel pump do anything different on a hard start? I don't seem to hear the noise on a hard acceleration from street speed. Is this noise normal for the Aurora? Mine is a 98. Thanks. 97 silverbullet 10-26-2003, 01:54 AM hows your shocks looking, I know mine are going bad and the compresser is always pumping up the shocks, so that may be the sound your hearing, or your fuel pump could be goin on you, just look for some symtoms such as stalling out, studdering and hesitation when wot, running rough at idle, My buddy has a mustang and the fuel pump was bad and all these things were going wrong and the dealer couldn't figure it out cause it had all the other symtoms of something else wrong with the car. he replaced the fuelpump and it runs perfect. jlaird 10-26-2003, 05:15 AM Thanks. The shocks seem ok. The compressor only runs a few seconds at start up unless the trunk is full of my tools then it runs a bit longer. I think you are right about the fuel pump. No wot performance problems now. Did have bad miss but that was ignition related and new plugs and wires fixed it. I will keep an eye on the fuel pump. jlaird 01-25-2004, 01:46 PM This is an old post but I decided to append rather than start a new one. I am hearing the noise more frequently now. Still no performance problems and the shocks are ok. My questions are about the fuel pump. Does it run constantly or only on demand? Also does it have more than one speed? kgatwork 01-25-2004, 02:50 PM Pump should run 100% of the time when engine is running. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
