power steering leak

my brother has a 97 v6 camry. his power steering was making a really loud gritty noise and when i looked at the power steering level, it was low. so i filled it back up and the noise went away, but just recently it made the noise again. the fluid was once again low. there are 2 hoses coming out of the tank. the fluid level always ends right below the second hose. can anybody help us? if i just keep adding fluid, it fixes temporarily, but this is no permanent solution. any help would be great. thanks.

i think your power steering pump is leaking. i saw alot of camry's leak fluid out of the shaft seal. but before you replace the pump, i'll recommend cleaning the pump, put some new fluid in, start the car, let it run and check where the fluid is leaking out at. if it leaks out behind the pully, replace the pump. hope this help.

Mine leaks too on my 92 Camry 2.2 litre. I just use powering steering fluid which contains "stop leak" in it and it has seemed to slow it down a lot.

I've been using Prestone power steering fluid with "stop leak" and it seems to work well. I've heard very good things about Lucas products so you may want to give it a try.

I agree i think that using Prestone power steering fluid with "stop leak" is the way to go. It should fix the leak problem.

i have never tried the prestone but the lucas worked in my truck. but if its worked for somebody then it will most likely work for you too. the only cars with diffrent powersteering fluids are hondas. so you should be fine.
