Re: GTO Pontiac

Holden is only shipping over 18000 in the first year.

The ute was touted to be named a Chevy El Camino but that's not offical. Yet.

And yep the Torana is being developed but no details exist yet.

Re: GTO Pontiac

It is true that production of the GTO (Monaro) is going to be limited to 18,000 units a year.

I have been reading about them in the various auto mags and am looking forward to seeing one in person.

The mods that I have read about include ABS and Bosch traction control, 17 inch tires to match chassis tuning, and upgrades to make the GTO withstand the cold weather here.

The GTO gets bashed a bit by having reserved exterior styling. I, for one, like the understated look.A car does not have to be flashy to look good.

Heck, I have even been tuning in to broadcasts of the Australian V8 Supercars on Speed TV. I see where Ford runs a Falcon. What Holden is run in that series?

Re: Re: GTO Pontiac

wtf?? What the hell is the point of a Torana so long as the Vectra exists?????

Yeah- GTO allcocation to the US is around 25,000 a year, the VY Ute could be bought in as an El Camino- nothing has been confirmed

and Holden run a VY Commodore sedan in the V8 Supercars

LOL are the "lesser teams" still running VT"s??? Or have they finally gotten some ex-works VX's????
Yeah- According to Murph, the VY's are far superior to the VX's, so there are no doubt plenty of exworks ones floating around.

Wasn't the Torana's niche similar to the Vectra's??? A mid-sized family sedan (RWD in the day- as were most cars though......) that was sensible transport.........The Vectra is that- but the Torana happened to get crazy- while the best Opel musted up was the SRi..........

Meh- the Vectra always was a rep-box, always will be though, the Mondeo is way better........

Well I heard of the GTO before I came here.

Let me tell ya the Monaro is pretty freaking sharp.

Like to get my "weenie clamps" on one of those.

The Utes as well. They look awesome.
I just got a 83 wb cant afford one othse SS jobs.

I bet the US does go for the El Camino.
That would just suck was going to take mine back when I went back

Just to have something different.

oh well I'll just import a chev truck then..LOL

Re: GTO Pontiac

Dont ever rate the Monaro on the races. Especially the 24 hour they just won. So far removed from production its not funny. yet the other cars only had brake, suspension and a few roll cage mods etc.

As far as Torana's being like Vectra's, uh, V8 Vectra? nope. They are NOTHING similar.

Re: Re: GTO Pontiac

I know someone in the US who has seen a GTO in the states, so they are there, even if its only in very small numbers. (although its possible he saw one of the pre-release test cars).

Re: Re: GTO Pontiac

I dunno- the GTO's grille looks totally out of place and the Monaros a little blunt- but I put it down to the grilles The AWD Monaro concept looks stunning
