i'm gettein a 1990 all trak toyota camry for under a $1000 the motor is shot however. now i could get a new 3sfe from ebay for $445 that will fit perfect but at only 135hp. i would like to know if i could put in the turbo celica or mr2 motor from either 1989-1991. this car as you can guess would be the ultimate sleeper. down here in savannah there are not that many camrys and no fast ones at all. however we do have a sleeper tracel with a turbo starlet motor doing low 9's in the 8th. keep in mind its a stock turbo and motor though with five on the floor. in my case the camry is an automatic which is fine becuase i can powershift. but like i said for the size of the car i need alot more power. the 3sfe can't even spin the tires when its front wheel drive. i know it won't with four heel drive.

Hey, I have a 3SFE with some migrated MR2 parts....you can JUST swap in an MR2 motor complete ....just the motor with minor mods fits ....in my case the motor had a blown rod so I stole many other parts including the cpu. Also switching the car to standard (if you so desire) requires three holes in the fire wall ...you have to lay upside down to drill them but, it is easy if you plan it ahead of time. I used a metal hole saw and air drill took about 10 minutes....just line it up ahead of time....form their you bleed the hydraulic fluid ....the line already has built in clips to hold it on the firewall. The next thing is your shifter console ---It fits in the exact same holes as the original-- The cables go through a cut out already in the firewall and voila....much more response on your motor than stock auto.

I wouldn't recommend the powershifting idea. The automatic tranny in a 3SFE isn't strong at all. I've already been through 2 of them with my '88.

Even if you were to invest in a tranny oil cooler and a stall converter, you just buying time which will eventually be never enough. I thought the same thing (regarding powershifting) as you have. However, I do know that Harmer has had good success with his Gen2 auto. He installed a cooler for it, so you never know. You might want to check with him.

saw your post, i have been doing some research on the topic. seems that the 3sfe is same in block design as the 3sgte. the motor in the all track. 5th gen i think (j-spec) is a 260hp turbo motor and should bolt in. you will need a stronger trans though. the v6 auto trans should bolt up to it. the 5 speed would be better though.

i am doing the research now because i am looking at making my corolla an alltrac. looking at making the 3sgte swap. i will have to mod one motor mount for my car, but the rest should bolt in(also mod a few axles as well). the parts are pretty much available in japan, just sparse here in the us. the all trac celica, the 1991 body style there were only 81 sold in the us, so picking is slim. i did see one yesterday, the hood scoop is a tell tale sign. but for 81 cars nation wide, to see one herein hawaii is really rare.

anyway hope you can do it. post pics when you do. there are some on swapping the motor into corollas but not to many on camry.

i got good news. there is a turbo motor for your corolla dude. in addition the bad news for me is that the transmission for the v6 will not bolt to the 3s-gte. the chassis is completly different. i have seen people with celicas put in camry transmissions of course the 5 speeds but it should be stout enough. if its not i have some tricks up my sleves. buick grand nationals have been know to put out 1000hp on automatics. if it can be done i will do it. even if it means taking gears out of the v6 trans and welding supports for the trans so it wont explode form the power. anyhow if any of you camry guys are getting demoralized cheak out www.cardomain.com and search for camrys. yotas rock. the same goes for all you with celicas. there is hope. also 200hp on a celica is nothing you can push that alot futher with some internal modifaction of your moter.

The Gen2 V6 5-speed tranny will bolt up to the 3S-GTE. It's recommended that you also utilize the drive shafts as well, for they are stronger than the I4 versions.

thanks for the link.... will do more research.... but i have been comtemplating finding a 97-01 camry aluminum v6.... lighter than a 3sgte, and more punch.. and can supercharge.... hmmm.... if a=b=c=d then a=d right? got the idea after looking at my co workers rare find 99 trd camry with 5 speed. motor mount points are same as the 3sge or 5sge points that the i4 motored cars have...
