Unhappy oh bugger

Have installed a sony cd player into my 1993 camry. Encountered a few problems (eg memory not saving preset stations, clock ect) figured them out. Finally got the unit up and running, only to find that I have NO DASH LIGHTS, PARKING LIGHTS, OR TAIL LIGHTS. oh no, does anybody know what on earth I have done? Replaced the fuse, only to blow another one when i turned the lights on. I have correctly connected the speaker wires, have green connected to the new black earth, red to the new yellow (because there is always voltage running on here, requrired for the memory) and blue connected to the new red. EEEEHHHH!!!!
The only thoughts I have had are that i put a connector on a random brown wire of the old unit, then just taped it up. also I cut that funny shaped thing off the earth wire and just used a connector to connect it to the old one.
Anybody have any idea whats going on?

Re: oh bugger

I have been trying to get a new radio to work in my 93 camry yet the one time I did get it to work I lost my clock, interior lights, and the the new radio. Though reading your post I triggered a website I found. Has wiring and instructions for the camry. Perhaps, though it works, some wiring may be wrong (or crossed) Try it out

Re: oh bugger

one possibility, on some of the old camrys, there are some wires in the trunk that would break and could short out to the tail lights and dash lights, might be bad timing, radio should not effect that circuit,
look in the trunk, facing, the left trunk arm, there is a harness that follows it, if you remove some of the tape you should find two to three broken wires where it goes into the main harness, fairly common,
just an idea, if need more info let me know

Re: oh bugger

I've read in a few posts where people have installed new decks in the Gen3 Camry and all of them have experienced shortage in the lights. You'll need to go through and check all of your wiring, and you should closely compare it as to how it was originally wired to the factory system. Also, as fredbros72 said, there could possibly be a short in the rear wiring harness that is causing you to kill your lights, but if it keeps blowing the fuse for the lights each time you turn them on, it's more than likely the way you connected the system. Best of luck.

Re: oh bugger

Hey..i have a 1996 camry and that happened to me too. I installed a multi-disc cd player and my odometer cluster/tail lights etc went out. I put in fuse after fuse, only to let em blow out. After i disconnected my antenna wire from my stereo deck or whatever the fuse stopped shorting out. Kinda curious why it happened? please reply back if u figured it out...in the meantime..i'll be going w/o my radio..

The same as with Snobdrblinkchik, happened to me, as soon as I unplugged the antenna, the lights worked fine. not sure why either, try it though. Good Luck
