Unhappy Ignition Problem? Or Passlock

I have a 2000 Alero coupe, a couple of days ago my my car wouldn't start after a few tries it finally started. I replaced the battery, at first I thought that was it but a day later it's doing it again. I put the key in and turn it, the car will either click or go dead ( sometimes it will start just fine ), when I release the key the gauges will freak out and go all the way to the right and back sometimes flickering. If I wait for a little bit sometimes it will start fine.

Re: Ignition Problem? Or Passlock

This is probally not a passlock problem.
When you say the car won't start, does the starter turn and the engine won't fire or you turn the key and the starter doesn't turn?
From the description, I'm guessing that the starter wont turn.
First check the battery cables and the terminals...especially the positive one at the battery for corrosion.
Clean it with some baking soda and water.
