torsion bars

I had the drivers side torsion bar on my Safari let go. Does anybody know how to change it and is it a difficult procedure?

Re: torsion bars

I have had the torsion bars off on my 1990. It was quite difficult to get them out in the front. This may not be the correct by the book way, but it is the easiest way I found when doing it. You will need a 8 in C-clamp with the swivel plate removed. and a scissor jack. I put the jack in the wheel well with the tire off and pushed the control arm all the way down. unloads the torsion bar. Now you can go underneath and use the c clamp on the tensioner you will notice there is a small dimple in the lever the ball end of the c clamp should seat right in there. take the pressure of the bolt. then remove the bolt and the cross piece that holds it in . I did have to take the cross member out to get them out. Hope I helped a little.
