Does anyone know if the ijz has any head gasket or head bolt problems like the 7M range?

Nope, no HG or rod knock problems, the 1st gen 1JZ engines do have a recall for the faulty 1-way valve on the intake cam cover, and have a slightly different intake piping for the blow-by gases than the 2nd gen, only a problem if your sticking with the stock twins and not upgrading.
