Overheating---Running Hot EFI replaced by Carburetor

I'm posting for a friend who doesn't have internet access. He's purchased a '94 caprice equipped with a 350. Apparently the previous owner replaced the EFI with a carburetor.

My friend states the car is running hot. He's replaced the waterpump, thermostat (wasn't installed) and radiator has checked out okay.

I'm thinking intake doesn't align with water ports in head or something with the engine cooling system caused by modifications but don't know how to help him further.

He doesn't have water in oil or steam out of tailpipe, and he does have to regularly refill radiator but thinks its due to overheating then boiling over instead of other way around.

Thanks for helping, friend is young and money is tight!
