Greetings net peoples. I have an 88 CK 3500 and I am attempting to install a car stereo into the center console. I have a bunch of stuff (wiring kit, center console, wires, caps) and I can't seem to get it to turn on. I've tried new radio, wires, and caps. So, I'm wondering if the actual stock wiring is bad (it has had a lot of noise on it for some time, maybe taking it out broke the camel's back).

Question is: How hard is it to run new wiring for the radio from the fusebox up into the console? What kinds should I use, and are there any caveats?

There are several things I need to know. How much power nare you planning to use. The more power intended for the stereo, the larger the wire needs to be. The original wire is barely sufficient for the original stereo. Noise is likely due to either poor grounds or "ground loops." The latter is due to excessive resistance to the grounds used in the vehicle. In many cases, the original location is ok for the shielding used in the vehicle. It may be necessary to use ground loop isolator. This goes between the head unit and the amplifiers of cheaper units to cointrol the noise resulting from poorly isolated units. How many speakers are you intending to install. Having this info will help me answer your question. Ray
