Noise/Vibration after clutch job

Hello all--glad to have found a Pickup forum.

I recently replaced the clutch on my '94 w/22re. Used a factory clutch.

Since restarting after installation, I've had a loud, low thrumming noise at idle and on deceleration (my wife says the truck sounds like a Bayliner), and a noticeable vibration at low RPMs.

I confess that I marked the flywheel and crank with a Sharpie to indicate alignment. Of course those marks rubbed off...so my theory is that the engine and flywheel are out of balance. But my machinist says that on this engine, the flywheel can be installed in any orientation. Anyone know how the balancing works on the 22re? Does this noise ring a bell for anyone? Thanks in advance--Nathan

problem solved

Had a chance to look at the noise/vibration issues today. The clutch and flywheel concerns were red herrings, as is so often true:

Loud thrumming/growling noise was due to air intake being disconnected from MAS airbox. Simple, if you just look under the hood!

Vibration is probably due to poor alignment, since it is present with truck coasting at 10-30 mph, engine switched off.

First, did you use a clutch alignment tool when replacing the clutch? Have you checked your U-joints and carrier bearing if it is a two piece driveshaft.
