Are you the Canadian guy in the blue-striped shirt?
Also, what was car #20? my mind is drawing a blank but I recognize what it is.

Yes I am...
That car is an RX3. That thing was so bloody loud. Sounds like a lawnmower crossed with a warthog in heat, and ampilifed through a hi-fi system. Also semlt bad and blew out black smoke

Loving the RX3. Judging by the noise you described and that you said it smelled bad/blew black smoke it was probably a 12A.
Classy.
And congrats to Roby on his Samurai Celica wheels on his Roku. Good call.

Thanks for confirming my suspision, I've never seen an RX3 in running order (too bad, they're neat looking, but from the days prior to long lived rotary engines) Reminds me that an RX2 (a runner, and good looking too!) is on ebay right now - haven't seen one of those running in years either, but I've always wanted one.
I think they smell good,(but for others) you know these days you can even buy 2-stroke oil that when burnt smells like strawberries? (it really does!)

the RX-3 was a full stripped out Cayuga race car that the garage brought out (along with the 600hp FD, can you tell they're rotary specialists?) just to show off. the 7 couldn't drift for crap (first time driver), but the RX-3 actually managed to make it through to the second round, on slicks i think!
and yeah, the thing was FUCKING LOUD! i watched a couple of videos that someone took from the event. one of the ams will be doing a run right in front of the camera with an SR20 and exhaust, and with the RX-3 about 200 feet away from the camera it STILL drowns out the 240SX not 20 feet in front.
and you're right, Octagon. it was a peripheral-port 12A with a straight-through exhaust system.
Roby's car is a fully stock 70hp SR5 with near-20-year-old suspension and an open diff and he still had the balls to go out and compete with the big boys. he was having a TOUGH time breaking the back end loose all weekend, but the judges (D1 drivers Chunky Bai and Atsushi Kuroi. seen in the first pic) were looking for the racing line and entry speed, not just the drift, so to our surprise (and his!), Roby made it through to the second round as well, beating out the FD, a couple of SR'd 240's, and that insane black hachi-roku you see up there. that thing has a custom turbo, but he ran the I/C pipes OVER the rad support instead. we called it "the bull" because they almost look like horns. he DNF'd because of clutch problems.
Mike, in the red SR 240, placed in the top 5.
if anyone's wondering what GDF is, it stands for Garage Dori Friends. that's the drift crew that me and Derek started. so far, there's me (just sold my Infiniti M30, so i'm between cars right now), Roby (3 AE86's), Mike (SR 240), Kenny (240), and Ralph (searching for S13). we're not much yet, but we just got going and are still looking for members in the GTA.
Garage Dori Friends - Sideways 'R Us.
i got some good pictures as well, i'll post them later. if anyone saw my rant in Stress Release, my fucking computer ate all the pictures of me with Bai, Kuroi, and Signal Auto president Kosuke Kida, as well as about 40 close-up pics of the 2 Signal cars. me and derek were the first ones in on the first day, so we got to see the cars up close before they roped them off to the public. i'm super-ultra pissed...but oh well. at least i have the memories.
oh and btw, that one pic is my 3" long cell-phone sitting comfortabley on the lip of the Volk GT-C on Bai's Sil80. got offset?

Hehe. Thought so. There's at least 20 of those nasty things that show up each year at Mid-Ohio for the Runoffs. They'll rattle your fillings loose if you get too close. The 510 boys and the guys with Mini Cooper MkI's hate them to death, too. Mostly because they win and are loud.

Octagon...wait till I get my vids uploaded...I was watching it on the cam-corder, and as brian said, Mikes 240 with the SR and BOV was going and all of a sudden...VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. It was louder than the Signal cars. Also, I think Brian will agree, my ears rang when it went by.
All in all, I had a fuckin blast. Any hate I had for drifting is gone. And after seeing Moto P slide around in that echo(I have vid too) I may even accept FWDs....maybe....I still dont fundamentally agree with the concept, but it was cool.
