Question SER-VICE Light? How to turn it off?

On my GF's S-40 the

SER-
VICE

Light is illuminated on the dash.

Owners Manual says that its a reminder (750hrs or 12months) and that it will stay on for 2 minutes after start until reset by the servicing retailer.

Well.....I don't know how to turn it off.

Any hints?

I think you need a "service light reset tool" to turn off the light. I know iPd sells one for the 850/70 seires, give them a call. Here is the one for the 850 model http://www.ipdusa.com/ProductsCat.as...564&RootID=629

You mean that there is no way for a Volvo owner to "reset" this idiot light? Other than buying a $200 tool???

Will it reset by itself after so many hours/restarts/miles?

na

There is def a way without buying the 200 dollar tool. Mine is on and hasn't gone off yet, and I've been driving with it on for like 3 weeks. It def has to be reset tho. I heard there is a button to do it somewhere, but I'm not sure where it is. I'm going to look all over the net tonight to find it and I'll post it if I have any luck.

Why not give iPd a call and ask if they know of a way to turn it off or if you need the tool, they will give you a straight answer

Thank you very much V70

Knew it had to be some combination of buttons or whatever. GM uses the throttle pedal in some of its resets.

I have a '97 940 Wagon and you reset the service light by pressing a button in the dash. There is a rubber cover to the left of the trip meter. Remove it and push the button inside with a pen or small screwdriver. A mechanic friend of mine called Volvo to get the answer to that one.

Maybe if you turn the engine off the service lights will shut down...
