DC area Xterra Clubs?

New to the Xterra community...Anyone know of any Xterra clubs in the Washington DC area?

I'm pretty novice to this all, but just bought a 2002 SE Supercharged, and love it, and want to do some offroading.

A couple questions...

Do I need to take any special care with the supercharger (thinking dust, mud, etc.). Have y'all seen any Supercharged out on the trails yet? Also, what's the typical "first-thing" people get customized on their X? Or is it just based on personal pref?

Hopefully I'll soon be able to submit a few pics of my own, though hopefully not like that one guy with the bent up tie rods! Ouch!!

Thanks for the info...

If you're planning on going offroad, the first thing you might want to look at changing is the tires. I know my stock BFG Long Trails pretty much suck on everything except dry pavement. Aside from that your limiting factor is your budget. How much money do you want to put into this? If you only have a little, shocks and a mild lift could help. Sliders are a very handy, and the insurance they provide will be worth it if you ever slip into a rock or stump. If you have lots of money, go for one of the bigger lifts.

Right off the bat, 2 free things you can do that will help: Take off your step rails (light and very weak), and disconnect your rear anti-sway bar. The sway bar isn't a must but it does help offroad.

Yup, step rails and swaybar are 2 freebies, but your first $ mod is probably going to be tires. Not that you can't do all kinds of exciting stuff with the stock tires, but some real off-road tires will really make a difference. I wouldn't take the plunge just yet though if you're just cutting your teeth 4-wheeling. On the stock tires you'll be able to keep yourself plenty entertained, then you can step up to meatier tires once the light stuff gets old :)

I agree with OffroadX. Take your time cutting your teeth before you decide what you do. I just removed my factory Long Trails off of my 2000 X during Phase 4 of Project X. My factory Long Trails performed reasonably satisfactorily for almost 40,000 miles including a stint in Tellico. Since Project X has grown up, it now has 32" tires on it. It allowed me time to get a feel for my truck and learn what it needed and what it didn't. During that time I had other priorities on my truck. Just drive it, make a plan for modifications and then implement that plan. It has worked VERY well for Project X. Also visit others websites for info on what they have done with their trucks and it can help you decide what to do with yours.
