Exclamation Van won't start

I have an '02 Eurovan, Weekender package, with 27,000 miles. Bought it new.

This morning the engine wouldn't turn over. I thought it was a dead battery except all the electrical worked. It's been running fine up to this point. No problems. Husband came home and couldn't start it up. Tried to jump it, but no luck. Called a towtruck, couldn't start it up when he arrived. Towed it to the dealer service department. They called us and said there was nothing wrong. Started right up for them. We must have flooded the engine. The engine was not flooded - absolutely.

I'd let it go as a fluke except that my friend bought the same model Eurovan just a week before I did and ended up selling the vehicle back to VW when the same thing happened to her! Her problems started the same way: van wouldn't start; tow to dealer; started right up for them. They actually replaced - first the connector to the RPM sensor which they said was cracked. But she continued to have problems with warning lights coming on but no problems being found, engine dying while driving, unable to restart. Finally the main computer was replaced but she felt so unsafe in the van she didn't want to drive it anymore.

Now it looks like the same trouble might be starting in my van.

Has anyone else had this problem? Found a solution? Isn't it odd that we would both be having the same problem, even though it is months apart? Could there be some defect VW needs to be aware of?
