97 Grand Prix GTP Stalls within secondsusername27 09-20-2003, 05:03 PM Just wondering if any of you have had a similar problem with your grand prix GTPs. My car starts up fine and then within seconds it stalls. The fuel guage has been acting up lately and it never reads approriately. When I have less than half a tank the guage starts going up to full instead of down to empty... the digital display also goes up instead of down... now my car won't even stay running... it just dies right after I start it up... it's like its reading that Im out of gas or something. The garage I just got it towed to yesterday says its an electrical problem... but they dont even know exactly what is wrong!!! They still have my car and don't have any answers for me!!! I was hoping someone on here might have some input and/or answers. Please send me an email if you can help. Thanks. Ripn12s 09-20-2003, 06:49 PM sounds like it could be a fuel pump resistor problem check out these topics on ClubGP http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/searchpro.asp?phrase=fuel+pump+resistor&appid=ALL&topicreply=both&message=body&author=&timeframe=%3E&timefilter=-365&language=single&top=50&criteria=AND omicron 09-21-2003, 12:27 AM Fuel pump resistors are a HUGE problem with Grand Prix's. This is one of the major upsets I have with these damn cars. ;) It might not only be the fuel pump resistor, it might also be as simple as a lose wire on your battery, that restarts the computer and makes your car shut off. That was what was wrong with my grand prix, it wouldn't stay running long enough to pull into the damn driveway. Take these steps first... #1 make sure all your wires are properly connected to the battery and computer. #2 Double check (just in case) this branches off now :P #3a If your wires were loose, tighten them and start your car #3b Check on the fuel pump resistor #4a Drive off and be glad you didn't replace your fuel pump resistor. #4b pay to get it replaced :( vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
