Do you consider the 1997-98 240sx a sports car or not?
Just wanting peoples opinions.

i definately think it is, if u swap the motor for a more powerful one, or if u turbocharge the ka. i think its a sports car because its rear wheel drive, it has two doors, good speed, handles good, and it looks good.

i dont consider the 240 a sports car as i do a sports coupe.

i also dont tihnk sports cars need massive power.

i classify sports car as a rwd, 2 seater with good handeling.

sports cars or sports coupe to me were always meant to have good speed/power.

i would still consider the 240 with the original motor a sports car, the 89-90 i wouldnt, not quick enough, the ones above it are just acceptable.

i think it is... just look at it. well the japanese one is, the american one needs some more power and a meaner look.

I say heck yea its good looking RWD 2 door thats fun to drive and thats what makes a car a sports car is you enjoy the sport of driving!

I would say yes 97-98 is a sports car, 95-96 not quite as much cuz it doesn't look mean enough, the 91-93 I would say is a sports car as well, 89-90 not enough power, and 94 no because they are only convertables

cause it's a picture of me driving A car... i don't have a car now. the bumbass shippers didn't even pick up the z yet, so i'm outta luck. i don't know what the fuck to do.

im not sure if you can classify it as "not a sports car" because it doesn't look as mean as the next generation... that would be like saying the older supras aren't sports cars because they were ugly ;) same with rx7's etc... anyways yes i consider it a sports car because:

almost 50/50 weight distrobution
very light
with the proper motor (proper meaning what it came with in japan, or something of racing breed ;) ) it is capable of hanging with almost anything else on the road considered a "sports car" and with minor suspension work it handles amazingly.

so yes, sports car it is.

look at the mazda miata. not the meanest looking car, but a true sports car though and through.

like i said, rwd, 2 seater, good handleing...add lightweight to the list.

actually thats pretty much the british definition of a sports car....and who best to trust than the people that truly invented the sports car?

I do not. I consider it a sports coupe. Sure, its rear wheel drive, but the little four cylinder that the states got lacks power. I think if we got the SR then it would be a sports car for sure (obviously).

Sports Coupe defintely, but I dont think Sports Car is off base either. It's a coupe, RWD, good power, superb handling, and as R.W.240 said, it's under 2900lbs.

yea but miatas arent slow, they re quick enough. if the car ran a 17 1/4 mile, then i do not consider it a sports car, even if it was a miata, just too slow. so i think that good power/speed is necessary, not a lot of power or speed, but it should be decent.

All I would care is if my insurance company thinks it's a sports car, or not. Me personally, I think it is a sports coupe. Nissan always considered the Z series as true sports cars, the SX's were not.
