Question 03 Jetta Airbag Warning Light

What's the deal with the Airbag System warning light? Anyone else having trouble with it coming on randomly. My mechanic said something about a bad connector... anyone else got the same problem?

I have a 2000 jetta gl air bag light is on, dealer reset computer, they told me to come back if it comes back on, it did, I have to get a new one, they said it was low resistence in the wire or something,

I realize this thread is old but I just joined, my air bag light is on in my 2000 Jetta GLS, dealer scanned and said that it was a faulty passenger seat belt sensor (I guess it is the same light) said it would cost something like $500 to fix, no thanks I can live with the light as long as the airbag still works.

Re: 03 Jetta Airbag Warning Light

If the light is on I doubt the system is operational.

Re: 03 Jetta Airbag Warning Light

I don't think so. If the light stays on after the initial 3 second operational check when you turn on the ignition then the airbag system is switched off.

Also if the light is on it wont pass saftey inspection, Mine was finally fixed after dealer replaced airbag, it ended up being the clock spring, whatever that is or does? any work that needs to be performed to get the airbag light off should be under warrenty for 70-80,0000 not sure.

Unhappy Jetta 2005 air bag lights

I have a 2005 Getta diesel from Katy Texas., Excellent car. Just today,
November 6, 2995. 8000 miles driven, the air bag lights wont go off.
Well I read the threaqd from other, it seem that Jetta have not solve this issues since 2000. Many jetta owners from 2000 onwards are having this same issues. So far i love my jetta , the 45 mpg is an excellent car, and the power of this small car is excellent. Even with 5 person, the power will not degrade. Please VW, find the solution. I will drive my car to the dealer and i bet all they will do is reset the computer, but what happen after the warantty is over. I got to pay 200 bucks for service just to reset the computer. HELP!!!!

Is there a VW automotive forum where the dealer adn manufacturer will take this air bag issuea serious problem. WE need a web site where we can try to fix our self. F-body forum was so great that I am able to save like 1500 in repair. Some problem were happening often and manufacturer will not recall them. Unless it is safety issue then they will recall them. I think air bag is a serious issue. if they dont fix and the air bag doesnt work, They are liable if one of us get killed. I will keep this up to date when i contact the manufacture. It look like im will be loosing money when my warantty go away. Dealer want boku of bucks expecially with foreign cars. So I think our giverment probably dont care abput foreign cars issuesor will they??
