MANY MANY 1995 Montero problems

Hello guys, We have a 1995 Misubishi montero 3.5 that has 140,000 miles on it and is running strong. It has quite a few problems though...well when we drive start it and drive it a little even if its just 5 minutes and then shut if off it starts leaking coolant not all the time though only sometimes. My dads friend who is a mechanic says its the gasket right by the transmission. The other day i saw it leaking from aroud there. We took it to Sunoco and they said its hard to get too and could not do it. I don't know wat to do now...ok second thing if it pulls quite badly to the left. Third thing when we put it into 4H the indicator lights on teh dashboard do not insttnly go on only after a while of driving. 4th thing when we turn teh blinker on it makes a zzzzzz sound a we have to smack it for it to hold what could it be? also when it reaches around 3,500 RPM's in park it makes a "hhhh scrathching sound. i know its alot of things can ya help? we are using Castrol Syntec, flushed teh radiator, new alternator, new timimng belt.

used mitsubishi monteros are easily had at a low cost
the reason for this is ..the parts are very expensive..and u have to go to the dealer for everything. I have tried to fix things myself and wound up taking it to the dealer.
I have had other mechanics work on it. and the honest ones tell me to go the dealer..others take my money put aftermarket parts on that simply do not work.
The 1995 Montero is the last true 4 wheel drive vehicle. its highend without comprimising its ruggedness...its a few pounds lighter than a discovery . it has won cross country off road race many times.
its a great vehicle, you can take advantage of the low resale value, and u have to pay high price at the dealer ,,but its done right and the and will last a long time.

example ..u have to get brake pads from the dealer if u dont want them to squeak and last a long time..
u can put them on yourself easily.

i found that goodyear has a promotion 11.99 oil change..
take advantage of it..
its a pin to get to the oil filter.
others will charge an extra 25.00 to get the skid plate off to get the filter
open the hood ,,,u can see any wires ..coils etc..
i had a missing proble with it when i first bought it
had three tuneups from other mechanics...still not fixed.
took it to the dealer..they found the real problem
cost me 365.00 to have two coil packs replaced..but its fixed!

Question probs w/ 95 montero

I have the same problem w/ my blinker - my 95 montero has been doing the same thing - zzzzzzzz - when I use the turn signal for about 2 yrs now - haven't been able to find anything wrong, and blinker still works.

I have another problem that no mechanic seems to be able to figure out. My montero is in great shape otherwise. It started about 5 months ago - happens about once a month where it seems to starve of fuel, truck starts to slow b/c NO FUEL, (everything else is unaffected i.e. radio, heat, lights, etc.) I lift up on the throttle, drift until after about 3-5 seconds, it 'catches' and there's fuel, truck moves, then no fuel, fuel, no fuel, fuel, no fuel. It does this while I'm driving. When I get to my destination, turn off the engine and wait. Truck is absolutely fine. Drives very well for a few weeks and then it does it again. Was able to get connected to a code machine, read out the TPS, replaced the TPS and the following day truck did it again. Since then (2 weeks ago) truck is fine.

Mechanics can't find anything wrong w/ it, no code ever comes up. Anybody have any similar probs? Does anybody have a possible idea of the cause? Don't really want to be left stranded - am over 6 months pregnant and would like to fix whatever the prob is before I have to worry about a little one. Help!

Re: MANY MANY 1995 Montero problems

I have tried an injector cleaner, that was my 1st try/solution. It seemed to work @ 1st but then it happened again. Are you saying I have to constantly add it w/ each 1/2 tank?

Have you ever changed your fuel filter and is your fuel pump making any unusual noise?

yes & no

I believe I have finally solved my problem I mentioned earlier - I have a new TPS and it's been adjusted correctly this time. The truck has been fine since.

Now my new problem is that I had a leak in the thing going from the gas tank to the fuel pump (forgot what it was called & I think I described it right) - when the mech went to take off the part, he sd it fell off b/c it was rusted. So now I'm looking @ another major part to replace. I guess it's that time - it is almost 10 yrs old.

Unfortunately, I'm not made of $$$ so after this, I'm going to sell it. If I was a mech, it would be a diff story.

But thanks for the reply. btw, interested in a 95 montero? he he

Re: MANY MANY 1995 Montero problems

Hey guys, I HAD the same problem with the turn signal noise.

It is an electrical problem within the turn signal assembly. I tried to take mine apart and fix it with no sucess. I had to replace the turn signal assemby unit (PART # MR252760). This is easy to change (I did it myself).

The part is pretty pricey, about $100 at the Dealer. I bought mine from Tallahassee Misubishi on line for $56.93 (No tax, but $9 shipping).

850-575-1212 or
www.tallmits.com.

They offer at least 30% off parts. I have bought several parts from them with fast service/delivery and great prices.

Good Luck

Bill
