Code 54 on carkicker1_solo 09-15-2003, 05:49 PM Hi, I got a code 54 on my car today. 54 is No Cam signal at PCM. I was wondering what that means? Also my car is still having troubles starting. It takes 6 seconds for it to start. Is this what is making my car not start right. Thanks for any help. KatWoman 09-16-2003, 01:32 AM Probably your camshaft position sensor. Even the slightest crack will cause it to malfuntion. When it goes out, your car will either hesitate to start, turn over but not start, or do nothing. cyber_lord 09-16-2003, 03:49 AM I'm having the same code 54 problem, I have changed the cam sensor, and the crank sensor respectively, but no luck. Mine will turn over, but not fire. I have checked the wires, and replaced the connectors, but still no go. Any help or advice would of help. Thanx in advance kicker1_solo 09-16-2003, 03:22 PM Thanks. We fixed it last night. the cam sensor where it plugs in had one of the prons bent so we rebent it and it works perfect now. KatWoman 09-16-2003, 06:37 PM Awesome! CyberLord, what year/mileage is the car? It could possibly be time for a new spark plug coil pack, if all of your sensors/wires are fine. cyber_lord 09-17-2003, 09:29 PM It just topped 100k Mi. last week. Would the coil pack be causing the sensor to be misread by the computer? cyber_lord 09-17-2003, 09:34 PM I forgot on last post, it is a 97 single cam. also, could it possibly be something with the cam sensor's magnet, if so, where would I be able to find a new one? KatWoman 09-18-2003, 12:37 AM I forgot on last post, it is a 97 single cam. also, could it possibly be something with the cam sensor's magnet, if so, where would I be able to find a new one? Once your cam sensor cracks, it is compromised and won't function properly or at all. You can get a new one either thru an autoparts store or thru the dealer. With alot of replacement parts I prefer dealer/Mopar parts simply because I have problems with the non OEM parts. cyber_lord 09-18-2003, 01:31 AM I have already replaced the cam sensor and the crank sensor, but I was asking about the magnet in the end of the cam. I've found nothing about it on any internet store, but chilton's and haynes manuals both show the part as what the sensor is reading. It is just held into the cam by two pins. What I am wondering is, where I could find a replacement to the magnet its self? by the way; thanks for any help. My little situation is giving me quite a headache, and I'm running out of parts to change. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
