VW Golf GL vs. police cruiser

My Honda was in the shop. It was stolen, recovered, and getting repaired. So, I had a rental late 90's Toyota Corolla, base-model, auto-transmission, white with grey interior, 4-door sedan.
So, I'm at a traffic light where it's three lanes wide. I'm in the middle. Down the street, the lane on my right actually merges with my lane. This shiny dark red Porsche pulls up to the traffic light. He's in his fancy car with his pretty woman. Anyway, I had to show him that he has to recognize my mad driving skills... he would have to merge behind me. So, the light turns green. I floor it ahead of time in sync with the intersecting traffic lights (i.e. cheating), and my wheels are spinning as I mash down on the accelerator. The peel-out screeching is enough for the Porsche drive to floor it. Yes, I was literally ahead of the Porsche for the first couple of seconds off the line. I could hear the Porsche's flat-six (kind of mellow since the new 911s have liquid-cooled engines) roaring and he passed me pretty quickly. His rear bumper had passed my front bumper by the time my Corolla chirped into the next gear. Yes, I was laying down so much torque to the point where I was chirping the 175s baby. (175s is street racing lingo for a tire that is 175 millimeters wide).
He ended up merging into my lane well in front of me.

Oh yeah, what were the possibilities. A three-lane wide road with me in the far left lane, a black, late-90s Acura Integra in the middle lane, and another Honda Accord of the same model and color on the far right lane. We were all lined up at the traffic light. The driver of the Acura had stepped on it a bit too early so he rolled back a bit while the light was still red. The road was slightly uphill and his car was obviously a manual transmission. I was watching the light and his front tire. He was slowly rolling back still so I thought that with that rearward momentum, I could take off faster.
The light turned red, without having to communicate with words, all three of us floored it. Yeah, I got a bit of a head start off the line and was ahead by a foot. I was flooring it but this Acura was slowly gaining distance. He changed into the next gear and was gone. He was well ahead by one car length before my car changed into third gear. Me and the other Accord were about the same speed.

I had a '95 VW Jetta III GL with a 2.0 liter 8 valve engine. I was at this intersection where the left lane was a "left-turn only" lane. A late 80's Honda Accord was behind me with one passenger. That's a 4-cylinder sedan with two people. I figure I'll just floor it and leave the dudes in my dust. The light turns green and I floor it through the turn. I'm pulling away from this Accord. While we were both going straight on the new road, I was over 2 car lengths ahead. Hah, I was right, the two person car was weighed down. I'm still flooring it and had not reached 40 mph yet when the Accord starts catching up and then actually passing me. By the time I hit 50 mph, he was well ahead of me and back in the same lane. I don't know whether it was nitrous or turbo but I was flooring it and got passed.

It was broad daylight. I was at a 4-lane intersection and the traffic light was red. I was in the left lane and this late-model Dodge Ram pick-up with four-wheel drive pulls into the right lane. It was nice and shiny and had 4 doors. This truck weighs probably almost twice as much as my 96 Honda Accord LX 4-door sedan. I figure I can take this truck.
The light turns green and we both floor it. It was no competition. Hands down. My automatic transmission had not even shifted yet and he was a car length ahead of me.

So, I'm driving along the highway and I plan on getting on a cloverleaf off-ramp to another highway. While driving the posted speed limit, this late 90's Ford Taurus is flying and catches up to me and tailgates my rear bumper like a tailgater would.
There's about 100 feet before the off ramp, the Ford is still tailing me. I enter the exit lane at 55 and so does the Taurus. That's where it all changes. I maintain 55 through the cloverleaf. My tires are squealing through the entire way and I'm leaning over to my right at almost a 45 degree angle. By the time the Taurus exited the cloverleaf, I was well ahead by over 100 yards.

I had a 89 VW Golf GL, 4-cylinder 8 valve, completely stock, 2 door coupe.
There is this winding 2-lane road that goes through a tobacco field with no intersections from one point to another point. One day, while driving home on this road, I am totally driving in the upper revs through every turn along with late braking. I see this car in my rear view mirror and I tried to get ahead of it at every turn. Slowly but surely, I could tell this person was also driving pretty fast, but I was gaining distance at every turn. I get to the end of the road and stop at an intersection stop sign. I didn't know he was there, but I get onto this main highway, the clunker of a car in front of me is spewing out blue smoke so I decide to pass it. It was on a solid-yellow line and so this police officer pulls me over for that. I thought he was pulling me over for speeding but he didn't have a radar gun and he told me he had a hard time keeping up with me and asked if my car was modified.

cause the 2.0 jetta motor is gutless i don't think it needed to have boost or n2o to beat you. my 80ish hp civic owns them with ease.

Actually, Ace is just fine. Each one of akina_speedstar's posts in this thread used to be its own, separate thread. I merged them, for easier reading and and responding...and analyzing (for those of you that might want to raise a flag or two).

Anyhow, Ace was just responding to each of the threads he saw. When you merge threads, it arranges the post by age, and since Ace's posts are all after akina's, that's why they look that way.

Howdy,
Actually, all those stories are true.

Yes, I was able to out pace a police cruiser. It was in the early 90's, I think it was Ford Crown Vic. Yes, an 8-cylinder police cruiser can totally dominate on low-end and top-speed against a VW Golf on a straight away. However, it was slower through a very serpentine road with a lot of sharp turns. I guess you would have to see the road to know what I am talking about.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't dig my stories. My Gran Turismo stories are much better. There was this one time...

I've got a 93 Civic dx. bone stock. It was about 9 one night, 3 lane in town, stopped for a red light. I had just went out to eat with a couple friends of mine. He had a early 90's ford explorer 4 door. so he was in the center lane. I was in the left. some guy in 2000 grand prix pulls up in the right lane. I give my friend in the explorer the eye and the guy in the grand prix is shouting at us. Well at green we all floor it, I getting alittle excited, burn coming off the line pretty good, but all 3 of us pull even out of the light. at about 25 I shift to second, chirp, and pull ahead of all, shift to 3rd around 50 and then the grand prix catches up and starts to get past me, I drop it into 4rd at about 80 and pull past him again. We keep going until about 105 till I finally proved my point by a couple car lenghts so I hit my brakes and slowed back down to the speed limit. I looking in my mirror, and my friends explore was a few blocks behind us still.

Yes, each story was in its own topic until a moderator merged them. Each story involved a different vehicle I was driving.
