How long a car can run depends, I believe the record is held by a Volvo P1800 with over 1,500,000 miles on the meter. But when you come up to higher mileage the service cost tend to increase. I'm not sure if Porsche are using chains for the camshafts in Boxter, but if they do they will probably need to be replaced at around 150-200k, and that usually cost some money. If it's turbocharged the turbo will also start to wear out at this range, then there are a number of other things of course but most important is that the car has a full service record and haven't been in any accidents.
