Question 04 Corolla Maintenance

Hey Guys,

Just got a new 04 sport. I love it. What's the best way to take care of it? The manual suggests I put 87 gas in but i've heard from a few it's better to put 89. Is this true?

Also if i wanted to ad two from tweeters near the side view mirrors would that be hard (i got the package with just the four). Any help would be much appreciated ... thanks a lot!

Pretty much the best way to take care of your Corolla is to follow manufacturer recommended intervals for oil changes and other maintenance, keep on top of fluids, and keep eyes and ears out for how your car feels and performs. If something doesn't sound or feel right, have it checked or check it yourself.

I personally use 87 octane gas all the time because it is cheapest. A good thing I recommend once a year is to add a bottle of Valvoline Synpower Complete Fuel System Treatment. It does the following: cleans fuel injectors, intake valves, manifolds, ports and carburetors,
helps eliminate rough idle, hesitation and knocking, reduces need for higher octane gasoline, and lowers exhaust emissions. And also at every oil change, put in their fuel injector cleaner. People will try and tell you not to put fuel injector stuff in your car, but it is a good investment and I have not had any problems with it yet. No need for any other additives for the oil or engine, though.

As for oil change intervals, I recommend 5K mile intervals. You can use many different oils at that point, be it conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic. There are several good brands around. AMSOIL is a full synthetic which would be great for everyone to use, but not all of us working class folks can afford the startup cost for it. You can also use any filter you wish if you follow a strict schedule of changes.

It's pretty much like I said earlier: keep your fluids in check, pay attention to your vehicle's performance, and follow the intervals according to manufacturer's specs. I may say 5K between oil and filter change, but other things can be done according to schedules depending on how you drive. Toyota maintenance guides make 5K intervals for special conditions and 7,500 intervals for normal driving. Pay attention to that. You can also seek out advice from other people as well.

As for your question on tweeters, I can't help you there. Sorry.
