Ah yes... battle of the AF 5.0's happened earlier this evening. All I have to say is wow. Both Fjords put up a good run.

Race of the titans... told through the eyes of an idiot. (Thats me.)

Originally FN(Fatninja) and TV(TerminalVelocity) were supposed to meet up out at some huge mall with no parking. I said screw that cause i'm an asshole so I changed the meeting place to TV's house. FN had to cancel coming out to us cause of girl troubles. So we decided that wouldn't stop us from getting in some racing. TV and I went on a road trip out to FN's neck of the woods.


TV and I get to his area and stop at a In & Out burger to wait for FN to show up. FN shows up with two other cars driven by his friends which were cool guys. So we talk for a bit and they both show off each others basically stock 5.0's. After about 10 minutes of hanging out FN was itching for the race. I hoped in with him in his Mustang, which is really really nice, and we took off down the road.

All four cars convoyed to a industrial area and went to the end of this really nice long street. Turned around and lined up, I hoped out and made sure each of them knew that when my hands dropped it was time to shake n bake.

Quick review for those who dont know what each has, TV has a '93 Ford Thunderbird 5.0 with basic modifications like exhaust and some small things. FN has a '93 Ford Mustang 5.0 with 5 spd 3.73 gears and flowmaster exhaust.

Anywho, I raise my hands standing inbetween them they both start reving up and staging... I count down 3 - 2 - 1 hands drop. TV hooks n cooks launching with his automatic tranny efficency with little drama and starts pulling. FN on the other hand... dumps the clutch and leaves a good 8 - 10ft mark of rubber along with the smoke to prove it. His ass end started stepping out all through first gear... TV was about a car length ahead at this point. FN shifted into 2nd gear leaving another tale tale sign of torque on the ground with more smoke and rubber. TV was now about 1.5 car lengths ahead, FN shifts into 3rd and leaves yet another small scratch and reels in TV. 4th gear he pulls ahead... the tail lights of both cars getting smaller FN calls the race by tapping his brakes by what looked like a good 1.5 to 2 car length lead. It was hard to tell from so far away. But it was obvious he'd pulled ahead.

Second run was hardly much of a race. They just turned around but neither were sure when to go so TV just pulled away and came back to where me and FN's friends were waiting. But TV did get back sooner so we'll count it anywho.

Third run, this was from a roll where FN says he gets his best runs. He's still learning how to launch, as it shows from his first run. I hopped back in with FN as we went looking for a good open space to run the 5.0's from a roll. TV pulls along side us and I heckle him by acting like a Brian Spilner from Fast and Furious and asked him "Hey, whats the retail on one of those?" TV's response "More than I can afford!"

So we get to the open street, TV is now in the left lane we're in the right. Pulls up next to us, FN gives him the look and honks three times. On the third honk he nails it in 2nd gear and hazes the tires for a moment, TV is basically right next to us. FN shifts into 3rd gear and just from there pulls on TV like laughy taffy.

Then we all met up at a near by McDonalds and hung out for a while before TV and I had to get back on the road.

Over all, FN is cool as hell to hang out with. We had a fun time racing with him and just talking about people we know and the usual bullshit you do with friends.

FN's Mustang is a very nice example of what a Mustang should be. Clean and simple... yet underestimated. TV's bird has gone through a bit of neglect ever since TV bought a 240sx. I told him to bring it out of moth balls for the night so we can finally have this race. Now i'm always doggin on the Bird cause TV is my good friend... but once it gets its fat ass moving it does pretty good for what it is. Its faster than alot of things, but as the saying goes... there's always somebody faster.

Good racing guys... I had fun... I know you both had fun. Especially by the look on FN's face when racing :eek7:.

Fatninja, embarassing launch? Heck no, very badass... especially since i was standing right next to your car when you started to take a couple of hundred miles of life off of your tires by burning out. Very impressive to see your car get squirelly by chirping the tires going into 3rd gear. :)

Hearing both the 5.0s scream away was a damn sweet sound... and when you two were coming back it sounded awesome.

And comparing the feeling of your car with 3.73s and say 225hp. To my friends '70 Camaro with 3.73s and we're estimating 350-360hp... The Nova is gonna be just giggles of fun... :grinyes: 425hp with 3.73s... fun? Oh I think so...

I'm so close to dropping it in... soon... soon.


Felix, think of it this way... imagine your car with 200 more horsepower. Basically the same weight... and gear ratio. Just with 425hp.

The 240sx has alot more potiential than the Bird... The Bird has a very small engine compartment with a V8 crammed into it. No room too add a supercharger or turbo system. Hell even doing a Intake and heads swap would be a bitch.

believe it or not, after i put the 370cc injectors in my motor, my fuel curve is completely thrown off when i'm on boost. no one seems to know the basis of tuning the SAFC with larger injectors from 270cc. anyways i'm gettin my car dyno tuned today so we'll see how it turns out.
