Peloton25

Yeah - I did - I mentioned in the other thread you resurfaced that I can share a picture later. It's actually fairly boring as far as the cover is concerned. It appears to be a dark green or black cover with just a small "GT" logo above and to the right of the center. The photos inside it look to be excellent though, and since there are so few good shots in circulation of the GTs I'd love to get someone to scan a copy for us. Given their value, most people probably don't even take them off the shelf though. :(

My photographic memory isn't always perfect I guess. The logo on the cover is actually centered. I have another shot of it with a strange crop that led me off track. Also the cover is indeed green and not black.

Here's some various shots of pages inside. I don't recall how many pages there were in total.

I think I'd actually rather have a copy of this brochure than the Launch Brochure. I'm not an enormous fan of the F1 GT, but there's just not much reference material or many good photos of the 3 cars floating around in comparison to the other F1 variants. Being that it's the rarest of them all, this is certainly understandable, but hopefully someday that will change. Dreaming: Maybe Mr Selldorff will buy one and share it with us the way he has the LM.

There was also a one-sheet printed on the F1 GT. I've only seen one copy of it ever, and it was on Ebay. Someone else here was the winner of that auction, but I don't know if he intends to share better images/scans of it with us. It was two-sided, with a beautiful shot on the front and some smaller detail shots on the reverse along with some text about the car and McLaren Cars contact info.

If Mr. Seldorff does get a GT, I'll buy a ticket to the East Coast and spend at least 3 days and 15 gigs worth of memory to photograph every detail of that car. :grinyes:

Awww - thank you sir.

Its been discussed in here a few times before, and a long time ago I asked one of the Admins about the position, but my request never really went anywhere so I dropped it.

Apparently some other Moderators here on AF.com nominated me for the slot recently and it finally got hooked up last night after I accepted the call.

There isn't really a lot of moderation that needs to go on in here for the most part, so it will be pretty much business as usual I'd suspect. Occasionally we do get a troll or a spammer, so it will be nice not to have to drop it in another moderator's lap for resolution.

Thorst, I'm right there with you.

This reminds me of the 1st time I saw the Fina McLaren at Sebring in 97. I was in the back seat of the Blazer and saw that thing coming into view like an elusive great white shark showing its dorsal fin. After collecting my jaw from the floor, I scrambled for my camera.

Congratulations Peloton. Even though this particular forum doesn't need too much moderation, we occasionally do need moderated. I don't think you could have asked for a better, more knowledgeable person. Your slogan should be the old Dragnet line: "Just the facts ma'am. Just the facts." And I say that with sincerity. :smokin:

Mr Selldorff is an F1 owner here in the USA. He has 3 F1s currently including one of the 5 customer LMs. Read all about it here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=149954) if you have some free time.

I just come back to say Thank You for the information about the F1 GT brochure. Last weekend there was the Oldtimer-Grand-Prix at the Nürburgring and there was somebody with the GT brochure. He is very much in brochures and said he has never seen it before. Funny enough it was close to the softbound launch brochure for which he asked 400 Pounds / 600 Euros. Or was it 600 Pounds / 900 Euros? The GT was even cheaper than the lower price that so I had to buy it.

I donīt know how the McLaren lawyers would react if I would scan the entire brochure. But as there are most pages already shown in this thread i will make photographs of the missing pages tomorrow.

May be without this thread I wouldnīt have noticed this GT brochure.

Thanks again

Peloton,
for $100 you can get a scanner. For $160 you can get a scanner with document feeder, fax machine, and really nice inkjet printer. I have an HP OfficeJet 6110 and I highly recommend it.

Peloton25
08-17-2005, 08:30 PM
I know I can get 'a scanner' for $100, but I probably won't be buying a $100 scanner. I'm almost certain that I'll be buying a tabloid scanner capable of scanning A3 or 11x17" sized pages. I have a lot of things I want to scan that are larger than most scanner beds - which typically handle A4 or 8.5x14" paper. Of course I have the skills to piece things together after the fact, but I don't always have the time to get it done so that's why a larger scanner makes sense for me. At one of my previous jobs we had several tabloid scanners for artwork and they were great!

I really don't have any need for the other features you mention, nor do I have any need for scanning slides or transparencies - in fact I will be specifically looking for something without them. Once I get the tabloid I want, depending on it's speed (some are slow) I may also buy something smaller for lighter/faster jobs.

btw what colors were the gt manufactured in? ive only seen the burgundy and green ones, was there a black one? are any pictures floating around of the 3rd one, i may have seen one photo of it, if it is indeed black, but the quality of the photo was poor and it may have just been the green one... im sure you all have seen it, the one of the gt in the rain with lots of people around it...

The three were:

56XPGT: Green (like XP5)
54F1GT: Black
58F1GT: Burgundy

Unfortunately much like XP5, 56XPGT normally looks black instead of green in most photos. It says in Driving Ambition that the prototype was used for the GT Brochure, but after looking at all the photos in there, its even quite difficult to tell in any of them that the car is green.

The photo you mention was definitely a shot of 56XPGT. It was taken at Silverstone and the car ended up in the display with XP5, XP1 LM and #01R.

So who exactly were these brochures made for? Were these only for very interested (and qualified) buyers or anyone who would stop by McLaren's showroom? Any estimates on the number made?

Peloton25
11-01-2005, 09:45 PM
I've got no real answer on the number of F1 GT brochures that were made or what exactly they did with them. I do know that as far as Ebay is concerned (which I monitor frequently) that seeing one come up for sale is extremely rare - only outdone by a few other pieces of McLaren literature like the Owner's Manual that kick started this thread. It's especially rare in comparison to the Launch Brochure which is itself sometimes non-existent for several weeks/months at a time.

There's a large group of borchure collectors out there who seem to have little real interest in the F1, but who typically jump on the GT brochure and drive up the price dramatically when one appears. It will be very interesting to see if that occurs again.

I just can say that the F1 brochure is rare but collectors know that it exists. The GT was totally new for me when I read about it in this forum, I didn´t even know that there was a streetlegal longtail-version, I knew the GTR but not the GT. Of course I talked about the GT when I was talking to other collectors since I have it, nobody said that he has this brochure in his collection but many have the F1.

I would estimate that there are 10x more "normal" F1 brochures (hardbound and softbound together) than GT´s.

Is there some known information of the time between the production of the dark green GT prototype and the last (third) GT in comparison to the production period of the F1?

I've had the McLaren brochure from the outset but I was tickled pink when Nigel Gordon-Stewart, the MD, sent me this lovely F1 enamel badge with the McLaren Xmas card in 1992. No real clue on value there - worth what someone will pay for it as they say. If Greg paid Ģ50 for his, and likely others were bidding too, well then there you go. Perhaps his card has signatures from more prominent members of the organization though? To be honest, I don't recall even hearing the name Nigel Gordon-Stewart before.

This post feels rather strangely like the kind that you would see from a person who has registered here solely to advertise their own product - a practice we would generally frown upon from someone who is not a regular or even infrequent contributor.

Anyway, perhaps you aren't guilty of this since you didn't provide a direct link as most would, but your desire to promote the item seems just a little too eager. And since you didn't provide the link, I'll go ahead and do so here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360256019386

Now everyone can have a look, and see that whomever is offering this item clearly knows very little about the item they are selling. This is commonly referred to as the "Launch Brochure" and frankly they aren't as rare as some might wish to believe. I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few thousand copies in circulation. As to the 'Buy it Now' price on this auction, it is easly 5 times what I paid for the exact same item in perfect condition.

Caveat emptor. ;)

DocGTR

The value of that soft version in perfect condition has been around Ģ150-200 lately. Even the rarer version of this brochure with Gordon's signature does not command such a price the seller is asking, maybe half of that would be closer to what's the current value. For that price the seller is now asking I would already expect to get the original manuals of the road car like was auctioned last year for around Ģ1.100, if I remember right. These launch brochures popup every now and then on ebay and some of the auctions have ended up "seller relisted this item" if the price stayed too low. Everyone are free to draw their own conclusions about such auctions. ;)
