reverse

okay i have a 1986 jimmy, it was running fine then for some reason it wont do anything when its in reverse and it makes grinding noises in neutral and park.and it does fine in drive. what would cause this. any solution ideas?

Put it on a ramp and look underneath at the linkage rod. The clamp may loose or the rod bent.

If that's ok you may be looking at a dying gearbox. Drain the oil, by loosening the sump pan. Remove the filter and check it, the pan and oil for shards of metal. Bits of metal mean something has broken in the box = expensive repair.
