Sudden Serious Oil Leak-Cause??

My 94 Grand Cherokee (V8 engine) had good oil pressure and no obvious problems, then one morning drove a few miles and on the way back noticed oil pressure was pretty low. Checked oil when I got home and it was almost empty. This had to have happened during that few miles because oil was fine when checked a few days before. Went to store to get oil, put it in and it seems to leak out very quickly. I checked the valve cover gasket just now for the second time and I did find oil has leaked out from the cover near the back. I'm hoping it just needs a new gasket. Has anyone ever heard of that big of a leak coming from the valve cover? Thanks.

Is your valve cover in good shape? It sound like your cover has some kind of opening in it.

i have 93 laredo. recently had same prob except mine was from exhaust rubbing against front left of oil pan. ever since i've had it, i would hear a "rattle" when idling. i've heard same rattle on 2 others. believe this to be a factory defect that takes forever to show up(10 years)

Had the same problem & lost 3 quarts of oil on 4.0L engine. Found oil pressure switch leaking oil directly through switch. Replaced oil pressure switch & cleaned up mess at valve cover & exhaust. Problem solved.
