Exclamation engine light on!!! NEED HELP

I just removed my air box and put a k&n filter on to the end of the air flow sensor. The car ran fine with much more power for 2 days then the engine light came on and car lost power. Does anyone know if the new filter is the problem or if it would be something else.

step 1. remove ur gauges from the housing
2. remove the gauge covering sheet
3. take a permenant marker
4. color the check injen light icon on the sheet in
wolla!!!! put it back together and ur check engine light will out, or will it??? j/p

calm down dude....i was just messin..aint u got n e type of sense of humor?? i have the same thing wrong wit my jetta...the motor light comes on occasions...and i lose alot of power...i would say u should get a new oxygen sensor, but since its damaged it throws off the fuel and gas ratio, and thats why i think i lose power...but also when the light comes on my car starts makin a horrible ticking noise...im gonna get it checked out soon..so ill let u know when i get mine checked out, and hopefully it might help u...

Re: engine light on!!! NEED HELP

I do know of many problems with MAF's. But there are a few things you might want to make sure of. Make sure that the new filter is somehow anchored so it is is not just flopping around. Also, if you have a secondary air system, (a plastic hose that also goes to the airbox), make sure it also has a filter on it. Unfiltered air through the secondary air system will void warranties.

Re: engine light on!!! NEED HELP

I also have a 99 jetta III gl and had the same exact problem. i took it to Bert Smith VW and they dagnosed the problem as the some kind of brain sensor. I think it is called the MAF. It was covered by VW and I only paid for the diagnostic testing. The car has run great since then.
