Question Electrical problem(s)

Alright... here goes~

I own a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Coupe, with 103,500 miles on it. All of the interior lights do not come on when I open the door and/or turn on the accessory light switch. To clarify things a little better... all of the dash lights work ~ speedo, tach, driver center, radio, etc... the lights that do not work include, overhead lights, floor board lights (on door panel), rear seat lights and glove compartment.

Now.. I checked the fuse and it was blown. I replace the fuse and still nothing. So, with the new fuse installed I turned the key to the on position and the fuse blew. This is where I stopped trouble shooting as I have limited experience with electrical systems on automobiles. Right now I figure that there is a broken wire, or a bare wire grounding out somewhere, somehow. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the circuit that the interior lights are on always hot unless the doors are closed?

If anyone could help point me in the right direction as far as where to go from here... I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
