The intermittant function on my wipers does not work. When I activate them, the wipers move halfway up and stop. They will not move even when I turn them off. They will only move again if I set them to lo or high speed. Also when I turn them off they stop wherever they are and wont return to the down position. Any ideas on what's wrong?

I have the same problem with my '99 Rodeo. Have not got it fixed though.

I too have this problem, my truck is slowly failing me. I took it to my local guy and he check the wiper motor functions and everything turned out OK. He said it was a siwtch that has gone bad and it was a dealer fix. He said it was a major undertaking to get to this switch (in the column?) and the dealer would probably charge out the arse, just deal with it until you have a few extra bucks to part with to get it fixed...

Can you be more specific on what switch was replaced??
Is this a factory defect or recall. I don't mind doing the work but since I also have this problem too . I want to get it fixed the first time.

I haven't got anything replaced yet. I'm just living with the problem until I'm brave enough to take it to the dealer. All I know is that my regular mechanic didn't want to attempt to fix it.

I am having the same problem with my intermittant wipers, and the local Austin TX dealer told me that the problem was not the switch but was the Alarm Control unit.

I bought the part, and have pulled off the dash panels looking for the right piece to replace. I can't find it anywhere! It's a small grey box about 4"x3"x1", with places to pug in 2 wires to the harness. Anyone know where to find a wiring schematic that shows the locations of the control units? In my search, I found what I think to be the turn signal indicator flasher, which appears to be mounted under console behind the emergency brake light!

I can't find a manual at any local bookstores or part stores.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well my local guy seemed to think the problem part was located inside the steering column, but I don't want to lead you in that direction if it is not true. Let us know how everything works out.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for the control unit?

Is this module easily replaced, or is it a problem best left for the dealership? I am getting tired of having to deal with this problem...

It was not a very diffucult fix. The Isuzu parts guy said that they do a lot of these jobs. I would call this a fairly easy job. Much simpler than relpacing the serpentine belt. The key was finding the part to replace. It also helps if you don't disassemble more of the dash than is necessary.

The faulty part was the alarm control unit. It controls the front and rear wipers as well as part of the alarm system.

The part was number is 8-97240-466-0 its made by Denso for Isuzu.
Cost $ 210.11 from Austin Isuzu. Kind of expensive, but I did save on their labor charges.

It is located behind the dash under the right hand vent. To access it you should remove the glove box (1 screw on each hinge) There is another black control unit below the light grey box you are replacing. This black box is held in by 2 screws. I removed this box (also part of the alarm) There was no need to disconnect the wire going to it (Black box), there was plenty of slack.

Remove the one screw securing the alarm control unit and slide the unit down and out. there are two clip in plugs that connect it to the wiring harness. Plug these into the new part and test your wipers before completing the installation. Becareful not to drop any of the screws you remove, because if you have to pull the kick panel off, it can be tough getting the grommet back together through the hole in the carpet.

I have pictures to show the placement of the part, but once you have the new part in your hand and the glove box off, it is pretty easy to spot looking up and to the right of the vehicle from the passenger side footwell.

it takes me 5 minutes to replace it should not take you more than 10 all you need is a #2 phillips head screwdriver for the job I will try to post a picture for location

Thanks so much for the detailed instructions. I live overseas with no Isuzuz dealer and 1 repair shop. I had the problem, bought the part when I was in the States only to bring it back and have them tell me it was the wrong part. I was able to replace the part thanks to your post and my wipers now work. Saved myself some labor costs along the way, too! Thanks again.

Well I finally got a free weekend to replace the alarm control unit, and I guess I ordered the wrong part. The wire harness seat does not fit up with my unit, the unit number needed for a 99 Rodeo is 8972039890
