ok all you toyota lovers, i got a serious question for ya. the engine in my 85 celica is basically shot. i could either rebuild it, or get the supra engine my friend has and rebuild it. either would cost about the same at this poi9nt. my question is, if i were to rebuild the supra engine, would i be able to put it into my celica? i believe the transmission should bolt right up, and we can screw with the front end to make it fit, but will the motor mountsbe in the same place?

I don't know if you got a response or just went ahead and did it, but here's my two cents...

If your Celica is one of the CelicaSupra models (where they shared the same body) and yours is rear-wheel drive, put the supra motor in it, you shouldn't have a problem. If yours is front wheel drive, you'd have to convert it to rear-wheel drive for the motor and tranny to mount up. You could try to mount a RWD engine into your car, but if it worked, you would've spent a lot of cash to make it work, and you might suffer from torque steer.

the other idea, if you managed to get a Celica GT-4 from Japan, you could make custom engine mounts and get a rear-wheel drivetrain and put it in that, or cut the front driveshafts, then you would have a 2JZ in a Celica.

BUT you would need to upgrade your driveshafts and suspension to handle the extra weight and power.

if he has an 85 it's a RWD celica, he'll most likely have to worry about tranny and differential getting busted if he is putting in a turbo model.
