Question Change fuel filter?

My DeVille has had a persistent problem for about a two years. I've had it to three mechanics and when they drove it, they couldn't detect the problem. It's more noticeable to me, and when it's just started up cold. It feels like it surges. It doesn't sound like it has a problem, when you just run it and listen to the engine. I had my air conditioning unit changed out June of 2002. When I have the air conditioning on the medium setting, if I slow way down to turn a corner or turn around, the car dies. Highway driving is fine, it doesn't die then. A friend of mine, listened to it and checked a few things, and he thinks it's got something to do with something that regulates the fuel intake. I had a new fuel pump put in at the same time the air conditioning was changed.(June 2002) What I was wondering, do I need to have the fuel filter changed, as I don't think they change the fuel filter when they did the work. It was doing this same thing (surgeing) when I took it to them to have work done. The fuel filter was changed about three years ago, and what I understand is that it doesn't have to be changed that often. I also put Slick 50 in it, to no help. I'm a newbie here, would sure appreciate any feedback on my problem.

I'm not sure what year you have but most front drive Deville have the fuel filter under the floor just behind the driver's seat area. They are fairly inexpensive and Auto Zone should stock it and will give you a printout or information as to it's exact location and replacement method. Should not be a difficult job.
It is more than possible that after replacing a fuel pump located in the tank some crud would work it's way to the filter. Replace it. It is cheap insurance.
