I've got a 91 Toyota 4x4 PU, and after having a brake job and replacement of wheel bearings done a few weeks ago, I discovered the truck now has a loud pulsing roar at ~47mph.. I don't hear it below 45 or above 50mph. I took the truck back and and went round and round with the shop (Goodyear Gemini) where the manager swore there was nothing wrong. I took the lead mech for a ride, showed him the noise, he agreed there -was- noise as I reported. The mech told the mgr he heard the noise, the mgr said that was normal..?!?!?!? The mech convinced the mgr to let him recheck/repack the bearings. No change..
I got suspicious when I got the truck back, and upon trying to turn the
right hub lock, it was frozen. I took the truck back, they did -something-
which freed the lock knob, but the noise was still there. Thinking this might be a tire issue, I went to my tire store, and got the tires rotated, no change. Today, I had a bit of spare time, so I jacked the truck up and spun the wheels.. Guess what? The right hub indicates it's free, but
is actually not.. You can rotate the lever freely between lock-free and
in both positions, the hub is locked. The left hub works normally. Apparently our competent people at Goodyear Gemini don't do hubs well.. Now to my question: From what I've described, is it likely that this might be fixable OR am I looking at replacing one or both hubs? Suggestions that I go back to the shop that did this on a rework will be ignored.. Even though the shop is just around the corner, I will stay WELL away from them in the future.. Is this something that I could fix or is it likely to be a can of worms?
