I am looking for a automatic targa top kit for my sol. If anyone knows where i could find one, price, install info it would be greatly appriciate it.

:nono: there's no "kit" for it... it's a dealer installed option that you either have or don't have. Wanna know how you do it?

1 - Find a JDM/EDM del Sol equipped with it.
2 - Take sawzall and chop ass end of JDM/EDM sol off.
3 - Take sawzall to your sol. Chop ass end off.
4 - Pull and tug so the JDM/EDM ass end is sitting behind your front end
5 - Find someone with a Harvard degree in wiring and electronics to run all the wires for it
6 - After wiring, weld the two halves of the cars together.
7 - sand, smooth, paint.
8 - Go pimp your new frankenstein sol.
9 - See some ladies out on the street. Decide to impress them.
10 - Press the button. Up it comes!
11 - Panic as it gets stuck all the way up and absolutely refuses to budge.
12 - Cry as the girls laugh at you and walk away.
13 - Cry harder as you roll home at 3 miles an hour.
14 - Park your car in the garage, try to decide what to do.
15 - Get pissed, kick the hell out of your frankenstein sol, and get the sawzall.
16 - find your weld lines, saw the frankenstein sol in half.
17 - Put your original ass end back on.

are you going for speed or show? One thread you're boring out a b18, next thread you're wanting a transtop... the transtop mechanism is sooo so so heavy.... we're talking like 80 or 90 lbs.. that's like carrying a munchkin around in your trunk all the time! You can't go fast with that! At the strip, you want it to be as light as possible.. show you don't care how much it weighs as long as its fat ass looks good. I know 2 people who have the lambo doors, and to me it's another trend.. like euro tails were hot 3 years ago, lambo doors are hot now... then something else will come out and everyone will absolutely have to have it, and the people who have the old stuff will be dubbed ricers.. with the show scene, you really have to have a hot hot car built already, and then show hard for a few seasons, rack up some wins, and get sponsored. That way you always have the newest stuff, and other people pay for it. But decide if you wanna do show or go, and concentrate on the one. Not to say I haven't seen show cars with turbos and stuff on them, seen a few actually. But usually, given say $5000, a show person is gonna get a hot paint job, and probably have a kit made that no one else has. A go person, on the other hand, would go for a swap, new drag tires, etc. Dedicate yourself to one and go with it. I, for example, am working on exterior/interior mods. Not exactly "show" persay, but the b16 I have is quick, and I've got an intake and an exhaust on it, so it sounds good, too. I'm happy with how fast it goes, but I wanna make it look different. When my engine gets up there on miles and starts having problems (if it does... I mean it is a honda..), then I'll do a swap and probably concentrate more on really building a fast car, because by then I'll have another car to drive day to day.

yeah I ditched that automatic top Idea to much bad shit I have heard about it... I m not worried about weight in my car I want to have nice show car with a lot of go... I have invested over $20000 in to my sol and plan on doing that same again or more this winter.... later on I m going to build up a car just for racing....

94solgrl doesnt have a clue what shes talking about. im from the uk and we as you know have the option of transtop whereas it wasnt released in the us. we also have the SiR model which i own and uses the b16a3 engine that comprises of higher compression ratios hence more power. as for the transtop, you must be kidding when you say it weighs 90lbs. the transtop problems you hear about are those VERY few who go onthe internet to find solutions to their problems. because of that, the transtop is deemed unreliable? thats a load of rubbish. ive had mine for years and have had no problems whatsoever. only thing it requires is greasing now and then. there is no difference between manual and transtop power. sure the transtop weighs something but not enough to slow your car down to the point where its noticeably slower than manual. we have a poster just like solgrl over here. thinks she knows it all...

ok you and me are going to dance... right now. I didn't say the transtop is unreliable, but when you install one in a sol that is not made for it, you run a huge risk of doing something improperly. If you do something wrong, there are no, and I mean NO shops in the US who have any clue what the hell the thing is, which means that there's no one to fix the damn thing if something does go wrong. I've also heard that it adds around 90 lbs to the total weight of the car.. it's a heavy mechanism. USDM sols are different than EDM/JDM sols, and with the transtop, it saves you a lot of trouble to just get a JDM/EDM sol with it in it.. not to mention how hard it is to find the mechanism itself. And it usually sells for about $5000 - $5500 shipped. Shit for that much, might as well pull out another $3000 and get a JDM sol delivered to your door. And I don't think I know it all. If I don't know about something I don't talk. I was relaying information I had heard about transtops. While you may have had yours for years or whatever, I've heard about a lot of them freezing up, especially when they were put in a car that wasn't equipped with it in the first place. And about the weight... at the track on a crappy run day, I hit a 16.7 in my sol with my sub box in the back. My sub box weighs about 75 lbs. After that, I opened the trunk, took out the box, and ran a 16 flat. Still not a great run, but when you're on the drag strip, any weight saved is time off your run. Like everything else with sols, the transtop only works as well as it's maintained. You hear people whining about leaky roof seals all the time. Mine don't leak a drop. Do I say that all the people who say that theirs leak don't have clues about what they are talking about? No. I was lucky and I got a sol that has been greased regularly, so the seals are still good. The transtop is cool as hell, but it's a bitch to get into a USDM sol, mainly because of the wiring. on the JDM/EDM sols, one of your buttons above the gauges is the transtop button, correct? All four of our buttons are taken. Cruise control, auxiliary lights, rear defrost, and hazard lights. So that right there is an extra button you have to put in somewhere. Then you have to modify your trunk lid, since the few transtop mechanisms that I've seen sold don't come with a trunk lid on them. Then you have to modify your rear firewall under the window for the manual override crank.. Sure it's possible to do.. hell with money and time you can put a 402 big block in a sol if you want. But it's a bitch to get in, and usually hard to keep up.

how the hell do you know that theres no shops in the us that fix transtops? you live in your own town and they live in theirs. im sure you dont have an atlas built in your head. i know for sure theres a guy in teamsol washington who does them. he regularly visits our forum and is very knowledgeable and thats just one person i know about. in the whole of us theres not a single person who can fix it? pshh...
i wouldnt advise anyone to listen to you as you just talk jibberish. the transtop isnt heavy. it weighs a mere 20kg. thats under 50lbs. however you may be right on one thing, that its probably easier to buy a jdm sol. applauds to you..

I really really don't like you. First off, I said my runs were crappy times, and I know that the stock b16 time is *ahem* 15.5. The track I was at is known for being a slow track.. just ask Mike, who has all sorts of engine work done and should be running 15s, possibly high 14s, and his best time was a 16 flat. And there's no shops in the US that fix transtops because, miracle of miracles, they weren't made here, so it's not something that honda mechanics have to know here. Wow that's great there's a guy in Washington who knows what he's doing with them. If I cared I could take the time he has and learn all about them, too. Ooooh maybe I could corner the huge transtop market... uhh.. not quite. And I know about shops because I was thinking of getting a JDM sol last summer, registering it, and having a toy. Well one of the reasons that didn't go through was because of the thing's top.. the guy who had it told me that the top didn't always work, so I started calling around, seeing where I could get it fixed. None of the honda dealerships on the entire East Coast knew how to work on them... a few didn't know what it was. It's really fun pulling up lists of phone numbers and calling every one of them, asking for the service department, only to hear some hick who barely knows what a sol is, let alone a transtop, saying that he didn't know. I talked to the Lexus dealership and the Mercedes dealership, since both of those makes carry a mechanism somewhat similiar to it. They said they could take a look at it, but no promises about actually fixing it. Same with all the privately owned shops I called. A couple of them were willing to take a look... some just absolutely wouldn't touch it.

Like I said in that other thread, the police here in Athens will block off a street at night if you ask them to, and if you are reasonable. Athens is a very car friendly town, and car shows/races bring in a lot of the towns revenue. So if we have a group and we pay for the close, it can get done. I don't know about other places. I'm not sure how I came across this post (kinda just came up under a search I did for something completly different on yahoo) and I know its a year old, but i went through all the registering just to tell you guys this: After all the mods your del sol is gonna run like a 15sec 1/4. My eclipse ran a 13.8 with a k&n air filter as my only mod, and I only paid $1000 for the car. Thousands of dollars later your already expensive car is still over a second slower. Just a thought

I didn't look it up, I came across it by accident looking for something not even closely related. I just wanted to point out that if your all about hitting the 1/4 mile as fast as possible, why spend thousands and thousands on a civic when you could just buy a turbo car for much cheaper. I'm not hear to bash the civics, with the right mods and work they can be fast for little money too (my friends dropping a gsr motor into a 92 hatch and is looking at 220hp). The guy just said he was planning on spending $20k on the motor and I spent $1K on every thing and it'll prolly be just as fast.

Should I ban him now, or give him a chance to make 4 more posts and then ban him?
