Okay, I'm lookin for a Triumph cause I've always liked them, but I don't know much about them..... I pretty much like the way they look. So what I'm asking is which model would be best to get. I'd liek to have a convertable and also I was wondering which were the best performing Triumphs. If anyone could help that'd be great, but keep in mind I don't have a crap load of money to blow on a car right now.

Howdy, I want a triumph as well, and while I can afford to buy one, from experiance I know I cant afford to run one.

I have no idea what they are worth in the US (more than here in NZ though) but your biggest expense will be on going maintiance and running costs.
Any older car, especialy one as old as something like a SpitFire, or TR5 or TR6 which is what you need, is really being operated well pasts its used by date, and in conditions it was never designed for.
Parts will fail from simple age and wear and tear, and are unforunatly becomeing more and more expensive to replace.
As a rough estimate, expect to spend on average 25% of what you paid for the car, on repairs every year.


Now Im not trying to put you off, Triumphs are truely beutiful cars to look at and drive, but if you dont have the income to look after one, then like all classics they can become unrelialbe money pits.
If you really are on a very tight budget you might be better off with a simpler more reliable car for a year or tow, untill you can afford to give a triumph the life it deserves.

There are however Triumph models out there that are still cheap to own and run, but I dont think they will fit what you need, and I dont know if they were ever avliable in the US.
But a Dolomite, or later Herald is still a great car, just wont have the performance I think your looking for.

All triumph sports cars are fun, but keep in mind, you better learn how to work on them or they will nickle and dime you to death. If your buying this car as a second, fun car to drive with the wind in your hair, GO FOR IT!!. If your buying a triumph as a daily driving, RUN in the other direction. I've owned over 6 british cars from MGBs to Triumph TR6 TR4 spitfire and currently own a TR3. Great fun cars, but not good daily drivers. I work on all of my own cars, so I keep the cost down, but it still can get expensive.
As for a first time buyer, I'd go with a Spitfire or a TR6. The spitfire is usually the lower priced one and spare parts are readily available and not to expensive. The TR6 is a lot more solid and costs a little more, but the parts are still readily available and too costly.

Bought it year ago, needed a lot of work,so, here it goes, New brakes all around, new top, new fuel pump, new water pump, new gas tank, rebuilt carburetor, new alternator, cd player,needed new seats but couldnt afford to recover, so i fitted Mazda Miata seats in, worked pretty well. Headers, 5 speed.Color : Racing Orange, paint is original but in great shape. Price is 3000.00 Neg.
