tranny bad and acting up. long. help...

I was moving 300 miles when my right rear tire exploded at 150 miles. So i put on the spare and drove the rest of the way on it (at 50mph of course.) I knew that couldn't be good for the differential, but it was last sunday and I had to be there.

It took a while to get new tires, I had to get the cheapest and all, but I got them Friday. Today (sunday) i start the car, back out, and then put it in drive, but I noticed it felt like there was no power. So I drove a bit and sure enough, something was wrong.

It feels like there's no fluid in the tranny. I checked it, it was pink and there were bubbles. My roommate suggested broken drive linkage, clogged filter. I think it could be either and maybe a bad gasket where the tranny meets the engine, because I notice it's moist there. Not dripping, but moist.

It makes noises too, when turning, which leads me to suspect the traction control system too. All that wear from the spare. I don't know when the fluid and filter have been changed last, 'twas my father's.

So in summary, reverse is fine, there seems to be slight leakage (could be something else), fluid is pink and bubbly (but full), filter might be bad, noises from driveaxle.

hmm

Hi.

The noise you will be hearing will more than likely be the transmission. The computer will be getting mixed siginals from the trans whilst doing tight turns as it wont be allowing the torque converter to transfer the shift to a lower percentage. These siginals usualy mean the trans is shot (the best indication is the bubbles in the oil!) and it is time to get the credit card out. Do what I did and for about the same price as a new trans - convert it to a manual (I think you guys call it stick shift). Make sure you get the right person (Or people) to do it.

Cheers............D.

try disconnecting the battery to reset the computer first. leave it off for a few minutes. try that before dropping a bunch of cash on a fresh one.
