ok so I finally decided to ask.
Why is perfect reaction time said to be .500 when racing like this?

Basicly I found if I let the clutch go at the third yellow light, I'll get .550 or so (one of my better r/t's last night).

But why .550 and not .050???

Also why are there different tree lighting programs?
Like, for what I do at the track, it's Y Y Y G,
but if you watch any pro or pro practice it's 3yellows (at the same time) then Green???

Anyone understand something I don't?

i don't know, but i always wondered that too about reaction time.... .500 is half a second, and that isn't that fast.. i don't know though, never been to the track

The Pros run a .4 tree with no lead up of lights.

Frozenblue, it may seem liek 1/2 second is not fast, be recall the car trips the beam...so you are moving the entire vehicle in 1.2 sec to stop the reaction time..... ;)

I believe it goes like this.
R/T=reaction time.
On a full tree, yellow, yellow, yellow, green. I believe it's .5 seconds between lights. So if you get your timing down and leave on the 3rd yellow in anticipation the green will come .5 seconds after the last yellow, this will net you a perfect R/T, or .500, if executed properly.

Pro tree much the same, just faster. Yellow, green. .400 second from yellow to green, more skilled involved here.

I still don't get why they just didn't measure R/T as time after/before the Green light. Guess they just chose to do it that way.

There's a "Pro" tree, which means all three yellows come on at the same time, and then a green... and then there's a "Sportsman" tree, which means you have YYYG. Also the times I'm familiar with are a .400 and a .500 tree. This is the timing of the lights. The two most common types are a .5 sportsman tree and a .4 pro tree.

guys dont forget most tracks are converting to .000 perfect reaction time so the .500 will no longer be perfect

yeah that would be nice since it makes more sence.

My first time at the track, I didn't understand why I couldn't get my R/Ts down better. It was like, "Damn, 0.532 seconds, I thought that was a good launch but I was still a half second late!"

But whatever, I got it now! :bigthumb:
