99 2.2 ecotec engine swap

i currently have 99 cavalier and want to put in a ecotec engine. i looked around and found a couple. one that i found was a 02 grand am ecotec i was wondering how difficult it would be or if the grand am engine would even fit in my 99 cavalier. the engine is also a 2.2l ecotec like i said. or would have to get the engine out of a 02 or 03 cavalier. and will the 02 or 03 engine fit in my 99 cavalier.

Why do you wanna go with an ecotec engine? They only have like 150 hp with a supercharger. Go get a 2nd gen 3.1 or an older Bu's 3.1 3400 or 3800 engine, rebuild it swap it in and super ot turbo charge it and it would have aout 240-275 the wheels.

tinytim you're the most ignorant person I have ever seen post...

the ecotec makes 140hp 150lbft...naturally aspirated..

it takes quite well to modifications, and gm performance already have parts available for it as well as a number of other companies..

2.2L ecotec in the grand am, cavalier, sunfire are all the same in every cubic inch..

however... there might be some wiring differences in the harness due to having different accessories and lengths needed for accomodating things..

what you're going to need. is the motor, maybe tranny (don't know what tranny was w/ the ecotec and if it was or wasn't the same as the one used on the 2.3L), a cavalier ecotec wiring harness (dealership), and the pcm for it... as well as maybe the mounts for it as I belive they changed slightly...

definatley larger aftermarket than that v6 tinytim talks about.

engine swap eh, little work in it. swap engine (of course), transmission, motor mounts (like the car the engine came from-weild em to your chais), computer chip-which alot of ppl forget, and a/c if u want it. 2.2L ecotec is a good choice for a swap--10hp less than 2.4, same torque, but most significantly half the weight as the 2.4L. but i'd rather go w/ a 3.8L. take the engine out of a '97 or newer Grand Prix GTP (supercharged) and drop that in there. just as hard as dropping an ecotec in there, so it can be done. 240 hp cavalier = kick ass cavalier
