muscle car top speedsamandiar 08-22-2003, 01:49 AM Whenever I see performance stats for muscle cars (or any cars for that matter), it always has the quarter-mile times and 0-60 acceleration. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a site displaying the top speeds as well. Especially Mopars Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... mopar  -The Stig- 08-22-2003, 03:09 AM Well, I can exactly help you out but what I can tell you is that most muscle cars were geared or are geared aggresively for 1/4 mile racing. Thus with out tons of horsepower to turn a steep gear most of the old muscle cars would have trouble going over 140mph i'd say. Our old cars weren't the best aerodynamic vehicles so it takes a lot more power to go as fast as cars today. :2cents: Musclecarclub 08-22-2003, 03:57 AM While most muscle cars were built for the quarter mile, the NASCAR inspired ones (Dodge 500, Dodge Daytona, Plymouth Superbird, etc.) were built for top speed. The Dodge Daytonas and Plymouth Superbirds could hit 180 mph completely stock. But it is true that most muscle cars would top out at less than 130 mph. samandiar 08-28-2003, 01:15 AM Ah. Thanks a bunch. I wish I had a superbird :iceslolan :iceslolan erricer 09-02-2003, 11:07 AM The c3 vette's 68 through 74 had the option of the big block 454. They could top out at a good 180. If you had the famous L88, that would take you up into the 200mph range! NO SHIT fastchevylover 09-08-2003, 01:21 AM They actually outlawed built superbirda at race tracks back in the day! It just wasn't fair and they still are extremely fast even by todays standards. lol..I wish i had a superbird to. geno96Z71 10-25-2003, 05:03 PM Speaking strictly from experience, my '72 Bird would only top out at around 140-145mph, and that's with a healthly RAIII 400, TH350, and a 3.08 10-bolt posi. But imagine the same car with a T-56 6-speed or G-Force 5-speed... BTW, the car has the full T/A spoiler package, H-O racing sway bars, V-rated rubber, and 4-wheel discs when I was insane enough to drive the car that fast, so high speed handling was excellent. p.s. Redneck, nice mill- hope you beefed up your TH350. I keep grenading them in my ride (I think 400+ hp is too much for them) Geno vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
