Aerodynamics: coupe vs. hatch vs. sedan

Which is more aerodynamic. I have read that the absolute most aerodynamic shape is a rain drop, only reversed. If this is the case, I would think that the hatchback would be best. (maybe the coupe??) Anyone have any opinions or facts about this.

I don't know for sure but I would think the coupe/sedan (same thing) because the trunk sticks out kinda like a drag spoiler and flattens out the wind in the back... just my opinion.

Actually i would say the CRX is the most aerodynamick, but since that isnt a choice i would have to say a Hatchback

no the raindrop shape is not more aerodynamic reversed, that is why rain drops fall like they do...they fall the way that is easiest and the MOST aerodynamic. so a hatch or crx would be the opposite of aerodynamic...i don't know what car is the most aerodynamic, i guess if the hatches drove in reverse they would be the most aerodynamic.

Any car that cleanly brakes the air then brings it back together will be aerodynamic.

Thats what rain drops do.

Look at the Honda Insight - that should give you a clue
1.CRX
2.Hatch
3.coupe
4.sedan

I would think

You are right about the raindrop. Some days I can be a real fool.

Back in the early days of the Ford Pinto, Ford was doing some testing on the body in the wind tunnel. They finished their tasks early and just for giggles decided to turn the car around in the tunnel and do some testing. To their amusement, he car actually had a significantly better Cd sitting butt against the wind.
