The Following was taken from the Haynes Repair Manual for a 95-00 cavalier/sunfire
1)Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securly on two jackstands. Apply the parking brake. Remove the front wheels.
2)Remove about two-thirds of the fluid from the master cylinder reservoir and discard it. Caution: Do not spill brake fluid on painted surfaces. Position a drain pan under the brake assembly and clean the caliper and surrounding area with brake cleaner.
3)position a large C-clamp over the caliper and squeeze the piston back into its bore to provide room for the new brake pads. As the piston is depressed to the bottom of its caliper bore, the fluid in the master cylinder will rise. Make sure it doesnt overflow. If necessary, siphon off some of the fluid.
4)work on one brake assembly at a time. Remove two bolts along the backside of the caliper, but dont remove the banjo bolt, unless you want to overhaul the caliper.
5)While your replacing the pads, hang the caliper with a peice of wire.
6)Remove the outer brake pad, then remove the inner brake pad.
7) pull the two caliper guide pins out of their sleeves, clean them, inspect them for wear, replacing as necessary... Then, Lubricate them with silicone grease and install them in caliper.
8) Apply anti-squeel compound to the backing plates of the new pads
9)Install new innner pad. Install new outer pad, then install the caliper and tighten the caliper guide pins to 38 ft-lbs of torque.
10)put the wheels back on and lower the vehicle, then tighten all the lug nuts.
11) pump the brakes several times to seat the pads against the disc, then check the fluid level and add, if nessecary.
12) Check the operation of the brakes before driving in traffic. Try to avoid heavy brake application until the brakes have been applied lightly several times to seat the pads...
