First check your manual if you have it. Maybe the original owner had it written in the radio section.
If that fails, you'll probably have to take it in to a VW dealer.
I was talking to an ex VW mewchanic and he said that they have to hook the car up to a computer, then send the temporary code they get to VW headquarters from where a permanent one is returned.

I'm hoping that it is provided free, but time will tell.
I asked the service guy to get it for me while my car is in the shop for other warantee work. Time will tell.
It never hurts to ask. Call up your local VW service dept.

Robert Larson's VW of Lakewood/Tacoma wants $37 to get the code.
Still a lot cheaper than buying a new radio.

Re: Stereo Codes

There is a specific procedure for getting radio codes. First you hace to have the special tools to pull the radio out. Second, you have to write down the serial number stampped on the side of the radio. Then you can call the VW Dealership with the Vin number of the veh and the serial number of the radio and they can enter the info into VW and it returns a radio code. Check your manual about entering radio codes, it is different buttons on different radios.
