Question 1996 Standard Faulty Clutch/related To Shifter Cable Repair?

Aloha, My 1996 Dodge Stratus 5-speed recently needed its shifter cables replaced...couldn't do just one. Now, a week later, the clutch is faulty. The same tranny. shop came and towed it to their business to ascertain that this present clutch prob. is not a shifter cable related problem and I have no warranty claim.

They say my clutch is an entire replace-it-all assembly that the dealer needs to order from the mainland. $800.00 installed. My Mom has offered her credit card.

Does anyone know how to guide how to successfully order my part myself on the internet?

Questions: Could they have, maybe, tightened the shifter cables so much they in turn applied pressure to the clutch?

Do "riding the clutch" and "shaking the shifting stick obsessively", wear out parts?

Mahalo! I'll check the board often, please reply! Tammara
