For the past couple of months, after turning off the ingition key, the lights remain on, I have to use the turn signal / multifunction lever to turn off the lights. Any ideas on what the problem could be ?

Newer models come equipped with automatic headlights. If the sensor is bad or your headlight lens is fogged up, it will trick the car into thinking it should stay on. Does your Malibu come with automatic headlights?
