dropped nut in oil panjvickery 08-18-2003, 12:45 PM I've dropped a nut in my oil pan on a chevy s10 4 cylinder. what would be worst that can happen if I don't remove it. any suggestions for getting it out without removing oil pan. I'm going to try a strong magnet to move it to filler tube opening then maybe I can get it out with a magnt stick. any advice appreciated....vic V-8Fan 08-22-2003, 01:24 PM I find it hard to believe that there is actually someone else on this planet that this sort of thing happens to besides me. I don't know if you're oil pickup tube is mobile in that engine, but about the only harm I can see happening is the nut preventing the pickup from swinging around in a complete arc, if it's meant to do that at all. I don't think the nut is going to bounce out of the oil and be struck by the crankshaft, but the effect would probably be spectacular if it did. Hope you can get the nut out with the magnet...I'm sure you'd feel lots better about it then.
