89 Honda Civic Trunk won't close...suggestions on fixing it?

I opened it and when I tried to close it...well, it just wouldn't. I saw how the locking mechanism works and tried to fix it...but it don't know why the latch doesn't close all the way when you try to close the back.

Any suggestions?

I had the same problem back in February I think it was...

It was solved by "lightly" adjusting the lock ring itself (the little square thing) with a hammer or your favorite blunt object. Don't know how it worked, but it did for me and it learned its lesson.
