Convert Cold Air To Short Airverno 08-17-2003, 07:35 PM Hi everyone, Im sure this has already come up but I could not find any posts about this question so I thought I would ask. This weekend I installed an AEM CAI in my 2003 Dodge Stratus Coupe R/T. I did not purchase a by-pass valve for it. Installation was fairly easy (except the fact that it was probably the hottest day this summer) Anyway my question is as follows: I live in Wisconsin. This fall / winter I will more than likely convert my car to a short air intake due to the fact that we can get quite a bit of snow. Can I do this with my existing CAI intake? Below is a image I took of my engine after my installation. http://www.midstatecontracting.com/images/CAI-photo.jpg So my question is can I just remove the down pipe and the collar and mount the filter on the air sensor? Im not sure if it will work, if it wont, or if its not recommened. Reason I am asking is I thought I saw somewhere that if you started out with a short air intake that you can purchase an extension piece to convert it to a cold air, which lead me to believe you could do it vice-versa, but I thought I would ask some of you to verify that. http://www.midstatecontracting.com/images/Air-flow-sensor.jpg Anyone else convert to a short air intake. Any advise. Thanks in advance, RamRay 05-11-2004, 12:21 PM Simple solution: Got to a machenist and cut the down tube to where it extends only 2-4" beyond the red rubber coller [conecting the sensor]. Attach the air filter and Viola! you have a short ram system! I have he AEM short ram set up on my '02 and that is the only difference: the tube is much shorter. flstf93 08-01-2004, 04:55 PM for $50.00 buy the by pass valve, is safer for driving in the rain! Plus you don't have to swap back and forth Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
