clicking noise???
I just bought a 1993 sentra, it only has 77,000 miles. It has a clicking noise coming from the rear. At first I thought it was a loose exhuast system, but that is tight. Does anyoe know whats making the noise?
The car runs pretty good, except it has a irradical idle, and when stepping down on the clutch it feels like the clutch cable is lumpy, is that normal for these cars?

I guess nobody knows what the clacking noise from the rear end could be? It happens on pumps and turning, but not all the time.

Re: clicking noise???
Does it happen when you're driving? Or just idling?
I was rear ended and a piece in the rear wheel well was knocked loose from a connector. I also had the bottom half of my rear license plate cover loose, it would just flap in the wind, it took me a while to figure that one out.

It only happens when I drive, but I don't have to be going fast for this to happen. The L plate is on tight so I know it's not that. It seems to be coming from the rear suspension somewhere.

I really don't know what that could be, does the clicking get faster the faster you drive? Is it rpm dependant, speed dependant, or does it always click the same speed?

faster is less
It is not speed dependent. It mostly happens at slower speeds on turns or on bumps. I don't think it is the rear shocks, becuase they are tight. I can't seem to find the reason for it, and it's driving me crazy.

that sounds a lot like a bad cv joint, except that would be coming from the front, not the rear. Look under the front of your car, follow the half shaft from the transmission towards the tire, and find the rubber boot that protects the cv joint (should be right before the brake rotor). Inspect it and see if it is torn anywhere, do the same on the other side as well, it might be easier if you jack up the car before doing this, it'll make it easier to see the boot. On older fwd cars a lot of the time the boots rip (they're rubber, thats what rubber things do) and if it isn't caught soon enough then the grease could leak out and dirt gets in there and it eventually ruins the cv joint, which starts making a clicking or whining noise on hard turns and on bumps.
