engine surging/running hot

my 94 rodeo is surging and this is causing the engine to run hot i've chked so many things i don't know were to start.the engine light comes on when i accelarate and off when i decelarate almost ten years and no major problems except to change the clucth recently and the timing belt and regular tune-ups .CAN SOMEONE PEASE HELP I WONT GIVE UP ON MY TRUCK .THANKS

I feel for you buddy, I having similar woes on my 92. But we have different engines and therefore I'm sure different answers. Vist this site:

i fixed the problem it was the thermostat the engine leveled out fine
