I killed my 2003 Malibu

I have recently purchased a 2003 Malibu. It had 36 miles on it when it was purchased. I drive 100 miles per day to and from work. At a little over 2000 miles I was driving on a highway when for no apparent reason the car died. The car came to a rolling stop. I waited a few minutes and when it started back up it would only run at 40mph. I pulled it over again and waited a few minutes and when it started back up for the second time it would only go 40mph with my foot to the floor. I pulled over once again and when it was started up it ran without a problem at highway speeds. I brought the car to a Chevy dealership and they could not duplicate the problem and the computer showed no error codes. My best guess is that the position of my hands on the steering wheel locates my thumbs almost on the cruise control and resume buttons. Is it possible to kill the cars engine by pressing on those two buttons accidentally in some type of way? There was no warning of any problem. I use the same gas every day. I like the Malibu but I feel a little anxious each time that I drive the car expecting that the problem is going to arise again. The only reason that I am suspicious about the cruise control is that I could only go 40mph when I started the car back up. Any thoughts about this????

No chance that pressing those 2 switches would cause your problem!!! All the cruise switches does is send a signal to the cruise module, it does nothing else. The some of the things that could cause your problem are not enough gas, spark, exhaust restriction or a computer acting up.
